The pressure on the veteran opener was immense, making Rohit Sharma’s authoritative 84-ball century against a disciplined England attack one of the defining innings of his late-career phase. When he reached the milestone, the emotional image of Ritika Sajdeh in tears in the stands underscored the weight of the constant public scrutiny surrounding Rohit’s form and future.

Despite Rohit’s brilliance, England’s record-breaking batting display proved too much for India in the series decider. After winning the toss, the hosts piled up a formidable 387/3 in their allotted 50 overs.

The foundation was laid by explosive opener Ben Duckett, who smashed a blistering 141 off 135 balls, while Jacob Bethell contributed a fluent 91. The pair stitched together a record 192-run opening partnership, putting India’s bowlers under relentless pressure. Joe Root then provided the finishing flourish with an unbeaten 74 off just 48 deliveries, taking England to a daunting total.

India’s chase began in spectacular fashion, with Rohit Sharma scoring a magnificent 138 and Shubman Gill adding a fluent 77 during their 147-run opening stand. Virat Kohli kept India’s hopes alive with a fighting 74, but the middle order faltered under pressure against Sam Curran’s decisive spell of 4/75.

India eventually finished on 360/7, falling 27 runs short as England sealed the ODI series 2-1. Although the visitors could not complete the chase, Rohit Sharma’s historic century at Lord’s remained the standout moment of the contest.
