Rinku Singh etched his name into India’s T20I record books on Wednesday (January 28) by equalling the record for most catches taken by an Indian in a single T20I match. During the fourth T20I against New Zealand in Visakhapatnam, Rinku pulled off four catches, matching Ajinkya Rahane’s long-standing record.
Rahane had earlier taken four catches for India during the India vs England T20I in Birmingham on September 7, 2014.
World Record for Most Catches in a T20I
The overall world record for most catches in a T20I innings stands at five, jointly held by:
- Wedage Malinda (Maldives) vs Qatar in Doha on October 5, 2023
- Sedik Sahak (Sweden) on September 6, 2025
- Tanzid Hasan (Bangladesh) on December 2, 2025
Rinku now joins elite company with his four-catch effort, placing him among the best fielding performances by an Indian in the shortest format.
Rinku Singh’s Four Catches vs New Zealand
Rinku opened his account in the ninth over, taking a sharp catch to dismiss Devon Conway, who was attempting an aerial stroke off Kuldeep Yadav after scoring 44 off 23 balls.
His second catch came when Tim Seifert (62 off 36) was dismissed off Arshdeep Singh’s bowling. Rinku then struck again in the 14th over, safely holding on to Glenn Phillips’ catch off Kuldeep.
He completed his memorable outing in the final ball of the 18th over, pouching Zak Foulkes’ catch to seal his fourth dismissal of the innings.
With this outstanding display, Rinku once again underlined his growing reputation as one of India’s most reliable fielders in T20 cricket, adding another dimension to his all-round value in the shortest format.
