MS Dhoni emerged as the highest individual taxpayer across Jharkhand and Bihar during the financial year 2025–26, according to senior officials from the Income Tax Department.

“The total collection from Bihar and Jharkhand during the financial year 2025–26 was around Rs 20,000 crore, of which nearly Rs 12,000 crore came from Jharkhand alone,” Dr D Sudhakara Rao, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Bihar-Jharkhand), told the media on Thursday.

He further revealed that nearly 70 per cent of the overall tax collection came through Tax Deducted at Source (TDS).

“MS Dhoni was the highest individual taxpayer combining Bihar and Jharkhand during the previous financial year,” Rao confirmed, although he did not disclose the former India captain’s exact tax figures or returns.

Among corporate taxpayers, major contributions reportedly came from Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) and CMPDI.

Meanwhile, Dhoni’s cricketing future continues to remain a major talking point during IPL 2026. Despite Chennai Super Kings having already played 10 matches this season, the legendary wicketkeeper-batter is yet to make an appearance due to a calf strain suffered before the tournament.

While CSK have frequently shared videos and pictures of Dhoni batting, wicketkeeping and even bowling during practice sessions, uncertainty remains over his return to competitive action.

Dhoni has also skipped several away trips with the team and stayed away from match venues on certain occasions. Explaining the reason behind his absence, CSK batting coach Mike Hussey said:

“He’s such a team-oriented guy, MS Dhoni. He always wants what’s best for the team, and he was worried that if he came, there’d be a bit too much of a distraction. Obviously, the cameras would be on him a lot, and the crowd would be cheering for him.”
