Lucknow Super Giants could find themselves under scrutiny after an individual wearing the team’s jersey was spotted allegedly using a mobile phone during their IPL 2026 clash against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday.
The incident came to light during LSG’s innings when television cameras briefly captured the individual beyond the boundary ropes while a replay of Mitchell Marsh’s boundary towards square leg was being shown.
Under the IPL’s anti-corruption protocols enforced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, the use of mobile phones inside dugouts is strictly prohibited to prevent any unauthorised communication during matches.
However, no action may be taken if the individual is found not to have been inside the designated dugout area.
As per BCCI rules, team managers are allowed to use mobile phones inside dressing rooms, but the use of communication devices in dugouts or restricted operational zones is considered a breach of protocol. Only authorised analysts are permitted to operate laptops and electronic systems from designated analyst areas.
The issue has already been a major talking point this season after Rajasthan Royals team manager Romi Bhinder was seen using a mobile phone in the dugout during an earlier IPL 2026 fixture.
The BCCI later fined Bhinder Rs 1 lakh for violating PMOA protocol and reportedly issued a warning after finding his explanation to the show-cause notice unsatisfactory. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia had confirmed the disciplinary action to PTI last month.
Sunday’s clash at Chepauk had already begun on an eventful note after CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and opted to field first. However, social media users quickly picked up on the alleged protocol breach after the broadcast visuals surfaced online.
