A bizarre incident from the recent IPL 2026 clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings has gone viral, sparking debate across social media. A video showing a fan performing what appeared to be a lemon ritual—widely interpreted online as “black magic”—has triggered a wave of reactions among cricket followers.

In the clip, a spectator wearing an SRH jersey is seen rotating a lemon and gesturing towards CSK batter Shivam Dube. Moments later, Dube was dismissed, adding fuel to speculation and superstition among fans.

The viral video was soon accompanied by an unverified letter claiming that CSK had raised concerns with the IPL governing council over the incident. However, the authenticity of the letter remains doubtful.

Lalit Modi Weighs In

Former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi responded to the controversy, suggesting that such practices are not entirely new in cricket circles.

“I remember I posted some team owner doing this to the opposing team… I even alerted the opposing team owners back in the 2011 season when I received concrete proof,” Modi said.

He further hinted at revealing more details in the future, claiming such incidents could be explored in a planned film or TV series.

In a separate post, Modi dismissed the circulating CSK complaint letter, casting doubt on its legitimacy.

“Seems fake this time. But one team owner did indulge in this type of practice,” he wrote, adding, “Black magic or coincidence. Or fake news.”

What Happened in the Match?

The incident occurred during the 17th over of CSK’s chase of 194, with Dube at the crease and the score at 154/7. Known for his ability to finish games, Dube was a key wicket for SRH.

As he prepared to face a delivery from Sakib Hussain, the fan’s actions in the stands coincided with his dismissal—leading to wild celebrations and even wilder theories online.

CSK’s Season So Far

Led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, Chennai Super Kings currently sit eighth on the points table, with two wins and four losses in six matches. They are set to face Mumbai Indians in a high-profile clash next.
