Angkrish Raghuvanshi was involved in a highly unusual moment during the clash between Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Sunday (April 26), as he was given out for obstructing the field.
The incident occurred on the final ball of the fifth over. Raghuvanshi clipped a delivery from Prince Yadav towards mid-on, where Mohammed Shami fielded cleanly. Attempting a quick single, the youngster set off before being sent back by his partner Cameron Green.
As Shami threw the ball towards the striker’s end, Raghuvanshi dived in desperation, only for the ball to strike him. Rishabh Pant and a few LSG players appealed, though not emphatically. However, on-field umpires referred the decision upstairs.
Third umpire Rohan Pandit ruled that Raghuvanshi had altered his running line after noticing the throw, thereby obstructing the field. The decision sparked immediate debate, with the batter visibly unhappy and commentators questioning whether he had any realistic option while turning back.
KKR head coach Abhishek Nayar was also seen in discussion with the fourth umpire following the dismissal.
The decision proved to be a significant turning point, as KKR had already lost their openers and were under pressure early in the innings. Notably, Raghuvanshi became the first batter in IPL history to be dismissed for obstructing the field, making it one of the most controversial moments of IPL 2026 so far.
