New Delhi, August 21: Defending champions South Delhi Superstarz kicked off their Women’s Delhi Premier League (DPL) campaign on a high note, securing a comfortable 29-run victory over Central Delhi Queens at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Thursday.
Tanisha Singh, who played a pivotal role alongside Nishika Singh to rebuild the innings, talked about her mindset and how she handled the high pressure situation after early wickets fell.
“I don’t look at it as pressure; it’s a responsibility,” Tanisha said after the game. “The team made it clear that my role was to spend time at the crease, rotate the strike, and find ways to hit boundaries while helping my partner play freely. I backed my potential and knew that if I stayed out there, the runs would come.”
Detailing her tactical approach during the match defining 82-run partnership with Nishika, Tanisha highlighted how crucial strike rotation was in unsettling the opposition.
“Nishika and I kept talking about spending as much time on the wicket as possible and milking singles,” she explained.
“Singles put a different kind of pressure on the bowler, forcing them to bowl loose deliveries. Once we got a boundary early in the over, we knew how to capitalize and turn it into a big over.”
Despite securing a convincing win, Tanisha candidly addressed areas where the team fell short, particularly in the bowling and fielding departments.
“Our batting was good, but we lacked a bit in bowling and fielding. That’s why they managed to reach 127,” she added.
“Our bowlers gave a bit too much flight today, which Nidhi took advantage of. If we bowl flatter on this pitch, it works much better. I know our team can do better.”
Looking ahead as defending champions, Tanisha dismissed any fear of pressure and issued a lighthearted warning to rival teams in the tournament.
Earlier in the contest, South Delhi Superstarz recovered from early stutters to post 156/5 in 20 overs, powered by half-centuries from Nishika Singh and Tanisha Singh. Sumiti Soni (2/13) and Medhavi Bidhuri (2/24) were the pick of the bowlers for Central Delhi Queens.
In response, Central Delhi Queens stumbled early to 31/3. Despite a valiant 63 off 55 balls from Nidhi Mahto and a quick 30 from Monika, the Queens were restricted to 127/7. Mayuri Singh starred with the ball for the Superstarz, taking 2/15 in her four overs to seal the 29 run victory.
