An expert committee appointed by the Government of Karnataka held a key meeting on Friday (March 13) with officials from the Karnataka State Cricket Association and representatives of Royal Challengers Bengaluru to discuss the possible return of Indian Premier League matches to Bengaluru.

Following the discussions, the KSCA confirmed that further updates on the matter are expected by Monday (March 16) evening.

KSCA Presents Safety and Infrastructure Upgrades

In an official statement, KSCA revealed that it made a detailed presentation during the meeting outlining the infrastructure improvements and safety measures implemented at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

These upgrades have been carried out in accordance with the recommendations of the expert committee under Phase-I of the compliance framework.

“During the meeting, KSCA made a detailed presentation on the infrastructural upgradations and safety measures undertaken at the stadium, in line with the recommendations of the Expert Committee,” the statement said.

RCB Outlines Operational Plans

Representatives from Royal Challengers Bengaluru and their operational partners also presented their preparedness plans for hosting matches smoothly at the venue.

“Representatives of RCB and their associated operational agencies presented their preparedness and operational plans for the smooth and orderly conduct of the upcoming IPL matches,” the KSCA statement added.

Stadium Closed Since 2025 Stampede Tragedy

The stadium has not hosted any matches since June 4, 2025, when a trophy celebration turned tragic after a stampede outside the venue resulted in 11 deaths.

Following the incident, authorities halted all cricket events at the stadium due to safety concerns.

Earlier this year, the KSCA received a conditional approval in January from the Karnataka government to resume hosting IPL and international matches. The approval required the association to comply with a set of safety and operational guidelines.

A formal clearance was granted in February, paving the way for the potential return of IPL matches to Bengaluru.

RCB Likely to Play Five Matches in Bengaluru

If the final approval is granted, Royal Challengers Bengaluru are expected to play five of their seven home matches at the Chinnaswamy Stadium during the upcoming IPL season.

The remaining two home fixtures will be played in Raipur, ensuring that the franchise can complete its home schedule even if there are logistical constraints.

Stakeholders Reaffirm Commitment to Safety

The KSCA also emphasised that all stakeholders involved have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring a safe and well-regulated environment for fans and players if the matches are hosted in Bengaluru again.
