Scoring 200 in the IPL once almost guaranteed a win. But modern T20 cricket has changed completely. Bigger hitters, flat pitches, and fearless batting have made even huge totals look unsafe. Here are the five captains who have suffered the most defeats despite posting 200-plus scores.

Shreyas Iyer – 7

Shreyas Iyer tops this unwanted list with 7 defeats. His teams often put up massive totals, but defending them became difficult in pressure situations. It shows how quickly momentum can shift in the IPL.

Rishabh Pant – 6

Rishabh Pant’s aggressive style made Delhi Capitals exciting to watch, but bowling consistency hurt the team many times. Even after scoring 200-plus totals, his side struggled to stop explosive chases.

Shubman Gill – 4

Shubman Gill has already entered this list early in his captaincy career. Gujarat Titans have produced strong batting performances under him, but defending big totals has not always gone according to plan.

MS Dhoni – 3

Seeing MS Dhoni here is surprising because of his reputation as one of cricket’s smartest captains. But even Dhoni could not escape the reality of modern IPL batting, where no score feels fully safe anymore.

Faf Du Plessis- 3

Faf du Plessis also appears on the list after a few painful defeats while defending big scores. His teams relied heavily on batting power, but one bad bowling spell often changed the game completely.

Modern IPL Is Different

This stat proves how much IPL cricket has evolved. A total of 200 once looked unbeatable, but today teams chase such scores regularly. For captains, defending under pressure has become harder than ever, which is exactly what makes the IPL so unpredictable and entertaining.
