Gujarat Titans delivered a dominant performance against Chennai Super Kings in Match 66 of the Indian Premier League 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Gujarat Titans secured a massive 89-run victory to officially knock Chennai Super Kings out of the playoff race.

Batting first, GT posted a huge total of 229/4 in 20 overs. Captain Shubman Gill led from the front with a brilliant 64 off 37 balls, while Sai Sudharsan continued his excellent form with a superb 84 off 53 deliveries. Jos Buttler then provided the finishing touch with a quickfire 57 off just 27 balls.

In reply, CSK suffered a disastrous start as Sanju Samson was dismissed for a golden duck on the very first ball. Mohammed Siraj ripped through the top order with an outstanding spell, while Kagiso Rabada and Rashid Khan also starred with the ball.

Despite a fighting cameo from Shivam Dube, who smashed 47 off 17 balls, CSK were bundled out for just 140 runs in 13.4 overs.

With this defeat, Chennai Super Kings have officially been eliminated from the IPL 2026 playoff race.

IPL 2026 Playoff Format

The IPL 2026 league stage is being played in a two-group format similar to IPL 2023, where all 10 teams are divided into two groups. Teams play the other sides in their group twice and teams from the opposite group once during the league phase.

After the league stage, the top four teams qualify for the playoffs:

  • Top two teams play Qualifier 1
  • Teams placed third and fourth play the Eliminator
  • The loser of Qualifier 1 faces the winner of the Eliminator in Qualifier 2
  • Winners of Qualifier 1 and Qualifier 2 advance to the final

If teams finish level on points, Net Run Rate (NRR) will decide the rankings.
