The IPL 2027 player auction is likely to take place on December 16 at ITC Grand Goa, with the BCCI seeking details from franchises about the size of their delegations for the event. However, the date and venue are yet to be formally confirmed to franchise owners and chief executives.
The development emerged from a WhatsApp message circulated by the BCCI’s logistics team on Saturday. According to the message, the auction briefing will be held on December 15, a day before the auction.
“The IPL 2026 Player Auction will take place on December 16, 2026 at ITC Grand Goa and auction briefing will be held on December 15, 2026,” the message stated.
Multiple IPL franchises have confirmed receiving the communication, which seeks details of the number of representatives each team expects to send to Goa.
The message is understood to be intended primarily to facilitate logistical arrangements and travel bookings. A formal email confirming the date and venue is yet to be sent to franchise owners and CEOs. It also remains unclear whether the schedule could change before the BCCI issues an official confirmation.
Interestingly, India are scheduled to face Sri Lanka in an ODI in Bengaluru on the same day. It is not yet clear whether the international fixture will be rescheduled.
There have also been reports suggesting that the venue for the first ODI, scheduled for December 13 in New Delhi, could be changed. However, the BCCI recently denied plans to shift that match.
With the auction and the international fixture currently scheduled for the same day, further clarity is expected once the BCCI issues formal communication on the auction arrangements.
