The 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League has found itself at the centre of a major off-field controversy involving Punjab Kings pacer Arshdeep Singh and his alleged girlfriend Samreen Kaur. Viral videos and images of the duo travelling together have triggered widespread debate on social media, especially after the BCCI reportedly introduced strict new protocols aimed at curbing what officials have described as “girlfriend culture” during the tournament.
Speculation intensified after a fan-recorded video surfaced online allegedly showing Arshdeep and Samreen Kaur walking hand-in-hand at an airport before boarding the Punjab Kings team bus. Several reports also claimed that Samreen had been accompanying the PBKS squad during travel and hotel stays throughout the season.
The controversy comes shortly after the BCCI reportedly circulated a detailed seven-page advisory for IPL 2026, outlining stricter behavioural and security regulations for franchises and players. According to reports, the guidelines prohibit “unauthorised persons” — including players’ girlfriends — from travelling on official team buses or accessing restricted player areas inside hotels.
The board’s crackdown is reportedly linked not only to discipline but also to broader security and anti-corruption concerns. The advisory allegedly warned franchises about risks involving “targeted compromise and honey-trapping” in high-profile sporting environments.
“The possibility of incidents giving rise to serious legal allegations, including those under applicable laws on sexual misconduct, cannot be discounted,” a BCCI source reportedly told The Indian Express, while urging franchises to remain cautious about potential anti-corruption threats.
Reports further suggested that the board is particularly concerned about the presence of influencers and individuals allegedly associated with betting app promotions around teams and players. There have also been claims that the BCCI is considering disciplinary action and may introduce even stricter protocols for the remainder of the season.
The controversy has emerged at a time when Arshdeep’s on-field performances are already under scrutiny. Despite remaining Punjab Kings’ leading wicket-taker with 13 wickets in 11 matches, the left-arm pacer has endured an inconsistent campaign, with his economy rate frequently nearing 10 runs per over. However, he showed signs of returning to form in PBKS’ recent clash against Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala, finishing with impressive figures of 2/21 in four overs despite the team’s defeat.
Meanwhile, Punjab Kings released a statement early Wednesday morning urging fans and media outlets not to spread “fake news” or “misinformation.” However, the franchise stopped short of directly denying reports about Samreen Kaur’s alleged presence in team environments.
With the IPL 2026 playoff race entering a crucial phase, attention on Arshdeep Singh is now divided between his performances with the ball and the growing off-field controversy surrounding his personal life.
