Harmanpreet Kaur-led India are all set to begin their Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with a high-voltage clash against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday, June 14, at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The contest is expected to be a crucial opener for the ODI World Cup champions as they look to start their title quest on a winning note.
India have enjoyed a dominant record against Pakistan in Women’s T20 Internationals, winning 13 of the 16 meetings between the two sides. Their most recent encounter came during the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup in Dubai, where India secured a comfortable six-wicket victory.
Since then, India have grown into an even more formidable white-ball unit, highlighted by their historic ODI World Cup triumph. With much of that championship-winning core still intact, the team will now aim to convert their consistency into a long-awaited T20 World Cup crown.
India’s batting hopes will once again rest heavily on the explosive opening duo of Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma, who will be tasked with taking on a Pakistan attack led by captain Fatima Sana.
Sana has emerged as Pakistan’s standout performer in recent times, averaging over 50 with the bat and under 25 with the ball across the last year. The all-rounder, who once smashed the fastest half-century in Women’s T20Is off just 15 balls against Zimbabwe in Karachi, is expected to pose a significant challenge to the Indian side.
India, meanwhile, will be without injured all-rounders Amanjot Kaur and Kashvee Gautam, making their bowling resources slightly thinner heading into the tournament opener.
