India’s injury concerns continue to grow as young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the remainder of the Test series against England due to a knee injury. The 22-year-old, who featured in the Edgbaston and Lord’s Tests, was left out of the squad for the fourth and fifth matches.
While Reddy struggled at Edgbaston, scoring just two runs and going wicketless, he delivered a fighting performance at Lord’s. In the third Test, he dismissed both England openers—Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley—in the same over, and contributed with the bat, scoring 30 and 13 across two innings.
Adding to the setback, left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has also been ruled out of the fourth Test. He suffered an impact injury to his left thumb during a training session in Beckenham. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his recovery.
To cover for the injuries, the selectors have brought in Anshul Kamboj, a promising pacer who shone during the recent India ‘A’ tour of England. Kamboj picked up five wickets and scored a half-century across two warm-up matches. He also made headlines earlier in the domestic season by becoming only the third bowler in Ranji Trophy history to take all 10 wickets in an innings.
India are already battling a growing list of injuries. Vice-captain Rishabh Pant is nursing a thumb injury sustained during the third Test. With the series scoreline at 1-2, the upcoming fourth Test in Manchester, starting 23 July, is crucial for India to stay alive in the five-match contest.
