The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended USA Cricket’s membership with immediate effect, citing “repeated and continued breaches” of its obligations as an ICC member.
The decision was made at the ICC Board meeting after a year-long review and stakeholder discussions. The main reasons included USA Cricket’s failure to establish a functional governance structure, lack of progress toward recognition by the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), and repeated actions that caused “reputational damage” to the sport.
Despite the suspension, USA’s national teams will continue to be eligible for ICC events, including preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. To ensure continuity, the ICC and its representatives will temporarily oversee the management of USA’s national sides, focusing on high-performance programmes and player development.
A Normalisation Committee, supported by ICC management, will be set up to recommend and monitor the reforms needed for USA Cricket’s reinstatement. These will include changes in governance, operations, and structure.
“The suspension is an unfortunate but necessary step to protect the long-term interests of the game,” the ICC said, while stressing its commitment to supporting players and developing cricket in the US.
