When 129 Didn’t Feel Enough

IPL finals usually give fans blockbuster moments and unforgettable finishes. But the 2017 final between Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiant gave fans something completely different.

Mumbai Indians could only manage 129/8 in 20 overs. In an IPL final, that score looked way too small.

Most fans thought Pune would chase it comfortably.

But cricket had other plans.

Krunal Pandya’s Crucial Knock

While Mumbai’s batting lineup struggled, Krunal Pandya played the innings that kept MI alive.

His important 47 runs came under pressure when wickets were falling regularly. It wasn’t a flashy innings, but it gave Mumbai a fighting chance.

That knock later earned him the Player of the Match award.

Looking back now, those runs made all the difference.

Mitchell Johnson’s Ice-Cold Final Over

Rising Pune Supergiant needed just 11 runs in the last over.

With experienced batters still there, the game looked almost finished for Mumbai. Fans were nervous, and the pressure was unreal.

Then came Mitchell Johnson.

The Australian pacer delivered one of the most memorable final overs in IPL history. He dismissed Manoj Tiwary and Daniel Christian at the perfect moments and completely turned the game around.

When the final ball was bowled, Pune finished at 128/6.

Mumbai Indians won the final by just 1 run.

A Record Fans Still Remember

Mumbai defending 129 runs remains the lowest successful title defense in an IPL final.

That’s why this match still feels special years later.

No huge total.
No domination.
Just pressure, emotions and one unforgettable finish.

Some IPL finals entertain fans for a night.

This one became history forever.
