The Auditor General of Pakistan has uncovered widespread financial irregularities within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), including mismanagement of funds, illegal appointments, and dubious contracts — all amounting to millions of rupees.
According to the audit report for the fiscal year June 2023 to July 2024, key findings include:
- ₨63.39 million paid to police for meals during international matches.
- Unauthorized hiring of three U-16 coaches at Karachi’s High Performance Centre, costing ₨5.4 million.
- Ticketing and broadcasting contracts awarded without open competition, including a media rights deal worth USD 99 million.
- ₨198 million loss due to selling media rights below the reserved price.
- Overpayments of ₨3.8 million to match officials.
- An irregular ₨900,000/month appointment of a Director of Media — with all paperwork completed on a single day (Oct 2, 2023).
- ₨4.17 million in unauthorized payments to the Chairman from Feb–June 2024, despite already being covered under government perks as Interior Minister.
- ₨19.8 million spent on diesel for bulletproof vehicles provided by Punjab govt.
- ₨22.5 million spent on coaster hires.
- Non-recovery of ₨5.3 billion in outstanding sponsorship dues.
During the audit period, the PCB had two chairmen — Zaka Ashraf and Mohsin Naqvi. Since Ramiz Raja’s exit in December 2022, the PCB has seen three different chairmen, with Najam Sethi also serving a stint.
Despite repeated warnings from the AG’s office over the years, no PCB chairman has ever been held accountable — even as allegations of mismanagement and misuse of funds continue to pile up.
