The wicketkeeper-batter played a pivotal role in the victory, scoring a fluent 74 off 48 balls. His impressive performance earned him the Player of the Match award. However, the spotlight soon shifted away from his heroics when a journalist raised a controversial question regarding his decision to withdraw from the Pakistan Super League in 2025.

🚨 Journalist – "Last year you withdrew from the PSL to play IPL midway of the tournament. This year they didn't pick you. Don't you have any regrets for leaving PSL"?

A Controversial Question Sparks Tension

During the press conference, the journalist asked:

“Last year, Kusal, you withdrew from the Pakistan Super League to play for Gujarat Titans midway through the tournament, citing security concerns. Now, the PSL is giving you respect again. Do you have any regret about withdrawing last year?”

Caught off guard, Mendis responded with an awkward laugh, clearly unprepared for the question in a post-match setting. As the atmosphere grew tense, the media manager stepped in, reminding reporters to keep their questions focused on the match and the ongoing PSL season.

Despite the intervention, the journalist insisted, stating, “It is a PSL question,” in an attempt to justify the query.

Mendis Chooses Silence

Opting to maintain composure, Mendis chose not to engage further. He remained silent as the press conference moved on, allowing his on-field performance to speak for itself.

Match-Winning Performance Steals the Show

While the controversy generated buzz, Mendis’ match-winning knock proved decisive in Peshawar Zalmi’s triumph. His innings showcased composure, timing, and authority, reinforcing his value as a key player for the franchise this season.
