Tension is mounting in the Pakistan Super League, with PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi reportedly furious over a controversial ball-tampering incident involving Lahore Qalandars players.

Ball-Tampering Row Sparks Controversy

The issue came to light following the clash between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings, where star batter Fakhar Zaman was charged with a Level 3 offence under the PSL Code of Conduct for allegedly altering the condition of the ball. However, Zaman denied the allegations when questioned by match referee Roshan Mahanama.

The controversy unfolded just before the final over of Karachi’s chase. With 14 runs needed, Zaman was seen in a discussion with Haris Rauf and skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi. Moments later, umpire Faisal Afridi inspected the ball and ruled that its condition had been altered.

As a result, the Qalandars were penalised five runs and the ball was replaced—effectively reducing Karachi’s target to nine runs in the final over, which they successfully chased down.

Players Distance Themselves

Afridi distanced himself from the controversy, claiming he was unaware of any change to the ball. Meanwhile, Sikandar Raza, who is already under scrutiny for a separate breach of team protocols, also denied involvement in the incident.

PCB Unhappy With Multiple Issues

According to reports, Mohsin Naqvi is particularly upset not just with this incident but with a series of controversies affecting the league’s image.

“Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is not happy… the PCB is taking great care to ensure the event is held smoothly,” a source told PTI, also referencing recent off-field concerns, including breaches of team protocols.

The board’s frustration is said to extend beyond this match. Earlier in the tournament, the league faced embarrassment when the white ball turned pink due to dye transfer from a team’s jersey—forcing umpires to replace it mid-game.

Possible Action Looms

With the PSL already under scrutiny, the PCB is reportedly considering strict action against those involved, including players and team management, as it looks to protect the integrity and image of the tournament.
