The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) honored Jay Shah, Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), on Saturday for his exceptional contributions to the growth and global expansion of cricket. The felicitation took place during a gala dinner in Mumbai, ahead of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Annual General Meeting, scheduled for September 28.

Over the past decade, Shah has played a crucial role in shaping the future of cricket. His leadership has been defined by a “cricket-for-all” vision, encompassing initiatives such as strengthening domestic cricket structures, enhancing tournaments like the Indian Premier League (IPL), and driving reforms that have elevated women’s cricket to unprecedented levels. Notably, under his guidance, prize money for women’s cricket tournaments has significantly increased, ensuring equality and recognition for women athletes.

The upcoming ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, beginning on September 30, exemplifies these efforts. This edition is set to be the largest yet, with expanded global participation, record-breaking broadcast coverage, and the highest prize pool in the history of women’s cricket.

MCA President Ajinkya Naik praised Shah’s dedication, stating, “Mr. Jay Shah’s unwavering commitment to empowering cricket at all levels has been extraordinary. His reforms, particularly for women’s cricket, have created opportunities and inspired millions globally. As we approach the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, it is only fitting to celebrate his leadership and transformative vision for the game.”
