Rajeev Shukla Takes Over as Acting BCCI President After Roger Binny Steps Down: Reports

Former India pacer Roger Binny is no longer the BCCI President, with Rajeev Shukla, the board’s Vice-President, stepping in as acting chief until fresh elections are held.

According to a Dainik Jagran report, Shukla chaired the BCCI Apex Council meeting on Wednesday, where the primary agenda was sponsorship. The board discussed the termination of Dream11’s contract and the urgent task of finding a new sponsor for the next two-and-a-half years. With the Asia Cup beginning on September 10, the challenge of securing a replacement in time has become pressing.

“We don’t even have two weeks left. We are trying, but floating a new tender, completing legal processes, and handling technicalities will take time. As for a short-term sponsor only for the Asia Cup, we are not going that way. Our focus is on securing a sponsor for the next two-and-a-half years, until the 2027 ODI World Cup in October-November,” a source was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, the passage of the National Sports Governance Law will not affect the BCCI’s immediate schedule, as the law has not yet been notified. This means the board must still conduct its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and elections next month. As per reports, the law could take another four to five months to be formally enacted, so the elections cannot be delayed.

For now, the BCCI continues to function under the constitution framed after the Supreme Court’s Lodha Committee verdict. Until the new law takes effect, both the board and state associations will hold elections under the existing framework.

The Sports Ministry has also clarified that elections at all levels will proceed under the current rules until further notice. This includes adherence to the Lodha reforms, which enforce a maximum age limit of 70 years for office-bearers. Anyone elected before reaching that age can serve a full term as per the present guidelines.
