USA to Field First-Ever Women’s Blind Cricket Team at 2025 World Cup in India

Over the past year, the two organizations have reached out to more than 1,000 visually impaired individuals across the United States through emails, phone calls, and partnerships with institutions serving the blind, according to the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI).

In a landmark development for the sport, Samarthanam USA, in collaboration with the Cricket Association for the Blind in the United States of America (CABUSA), has announced the formation of the nation’s first-ever Women’s Blind Cricket Team. The initiative will see Team USA make its debut at the inaugural Women’s T20 World Cup for the Blind, scheduled for November 2025 in India.

Over the past year, the two organizations have reached out to more than 1,000 visually impaired individuals across the United States through emails, phone calls, and partnerships with institutions serving the blind, according to the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI).

The program is being spearheaded by Abey and Drew, supported by a team of committed volunteers, under the visionary guidance of Mahantesh G. Kivadasannavar — Founder and Managing Trustee of Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled and Chairman of CABI.

“Demonstrations of blind cricket have been conducted for over 500 blind youth and children at schools, institutions, and national conventions,” CABI noted. “These events have inspired many and provided a platform to identify potential players.”

A key milestone came with the completion of a three-day residential coaching camp for visually impaired women in New York. Thirteen aspiring cricketers from six states took part in their first structured training sessions, guided by celebrated Indian blind cricket stalwarts Venkateswara Rao Dunna and Lokesha.

“It was a joy to witness these young women take to the sport with such enthusiasm,” one of the trainers said. “From learning the basics of batting and bowling to understanding the rhythm of the game — their talent and determination were remarkable.”

Samarthanam USA and CABUSA extended heartfelt thanks to volunteers, local cricket clubs, and generous donors whose support has fueled the project’s growth.

With the World Cup now on the horizon, these trailblazing athletes will continue their preparations — not just aiming to compete, but to inspire an entire generation.
