Lucknow, August 22: Riding on a spectacular unbeaten 97 from Swastik Chikara, the Meerut Mavericks completely outclassed the Kanpur Superstars to register a dominant nine-wicket victory in Match 14 of the UP T20 League Season 4, powered by Vimal Elaichi and NSC. Chasing 143, the Mavericks comfortably crossed the finish line in just 13.5 overs at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana International Cricket Stadium.
With this result, the Meerut Mavericks extended their winning streak to five matches, cementing their position at the top of the table as the only unbeaten team. Conversely, the Kanpur Superstars suffered their fourth defeat in five outings.
The fixture was officially inaugurated by Shri Dayashankar Singh, Minister of Transport, Government of Uttar Pradesh, who performed the traditional Bell Ringing Ceremony to commence the game. The occasion was also attended by several key dignitaries, including UP T20 League Governing Council Chairman Dr. Sanjay Kapoor, UPCA Media Committee Chairman Mohammad Faheem, and Director GM Tiwari.
Earlier in the day, Meerut Mavericks skipper Rinku Singh won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Kanpur Superstars got off to a positive start, with openers Adarsh Singh (45 off 36) and Priyanshu Pandey adding 36 runs briskly. The momentum, however, was halted by Vijay Kumar, who struck a double blow in the powerplay.
Captain Sameer Rizvi (19) attempted to rebuild with Adarsh, but following his dismissal by leg-spinner Zeeshan Ansari, the Meerut spinners took absolute control. Operating in tandem, they choked the run flow, delivering a staggering 46 consecutive boundary-less balls during the middle overs. A late cameo from Yashovardhan Singh, who smashed 26 off 14 balls, eventually pushed the Superstars to a modest 142/8. Vijay Kumar (2/26) and Zeeshan Ansari (2/30) led the disciplined bowling effort for Meerut.
Chasing 143, the Meerut Mavericks lost Divyansh Joshi cheaply early in the innings. However, that was the only success the Kanpur bowlers would taste.
Swastik Chikara took total control of the chase, unleashing a brutal assault on the opposition. Supported ably by Rituraj Sharma, who played a steady knock of 35, Chikara punished the bowlers to all parts of the ground. He brought the match to a spectacular close in the 14th over by smashing three consecutive sixes.
Chikara remained unbeaten on a breathtaking 97 off just 46 deliveries, an innings studded with nine boundaries and seven massive sixes. For his sensational, match-winning knock, Swastik Chikara was awarded the Player of the Match.
