Former Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer R.V.S. Mani has made sensational allegations involving former Pakistan cricketers Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif, claiming they were used to traffic drugs into India during Pakistan’s cricket tours. His remarks, made during a recent interview, have gone viral on social media and triggered widespread debate.
It is important to note that these are allegations made by R.V.S. Mani and have not been independently verified. As of July 14, neither Shoaib Akhtar nor Mohammad Asif has publicly responded to the claims, and no Indian investigative agency has released fresh evidence supporting the allegations.
During the interview, Mani alleged that certain Pakistan cricketers were used as couriers to bring narcotics into India during bilateral cricket tours. He specifically named former fast bowlers Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif while discussing the matter, claiming that Indian intelligence agencies had monitored such activities during that period.
However, no documentary evidence or official records were presented alongside his statements. There has also been no confirmation from Indian law enforcement agencies or the Government of India regarding the allegations.
As of Tuesday (July 14), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has not issued any official statement on the matter. Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif have also remained silent since the interview clip surfaced online.
The interview has sparked mixed reactions across social media. While some users have called for a formal investigation into the allegations, others have urged caution, pointing out that the claims remain unverified and that neither of the former cricketers has been found guilty by any court or investigating agency in connection with these allegations.
