Virat Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma has addressed the growing speculation around the former India captain potentially returning to Test cricket.

Kohli shocked the cricketing world on May 12, 2025, when he announced his retirement from Test cricket, bringing an end to a remarkable 14-year journey in the longest format. Having made his Test debut against the West Indies cricket team in June 2011, Kohli went on to become one of the greatest batters of his generation.

Over 123 Test matches, Kohli scored 9,230 runs and finished as India’s fourth-highest run-scorer in Test cricket history. Despite more than a year passing since his retirement, fans continue to hope for a comeback from the batting superstar.

The discussion around a possible return gathered fresh momentum after Rajkumar Sharma revealed that he had spoken to Kohli about the idea of playing Test cricket again.

“Many people have told me to ask Virat to return to Test cricket because he listens to you,” Rajkumar said in a video that has gone viral on social media.

When asked whether he had personally discussed a comeback with Kohli, Sharma responded, “We are talking about it; let’s see what happens.”

The comments have once again reignited excitement among fans eager to see Kohli return to India’s red-ball setup.

Apart from his batting achievements, Kohli also transformed India into one of the strongest Test sides in the world during his captaincy tenure. Between 2014 and 2022, he led India in 60 Test matches and became the country’s most successful Test captain.

One of the biggest highlights of his leadership came during the 2018-19 Australia tour, when he guided India to their first-ever Test series win on Australian soil.

However, Kohli’s Test career ended on a difficult note during India’s tour of Australia national cricket team between November 2024 and January 2025. The veteran batter managed only 190 runs in nine innings, although he did score a memorable century at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
