Punjab Kings and co-owner Preity Zinta have issued a strong warning on social media after unverified rumours involving the franchise and its players began circulating online.
While neither the franchise nor Zinta specified the exact nature of the claims, both described them as “fake” and cautioned that any misinformation targeting individuals, the team or the brand would not be taken lightly.
Punjab Kings started their IPL 2026 campaign in dominant fashion, remaining unbeaten in their first seven matches. However, the team has since suffered a dramatic dip in form, losing four consecutive games and slipping in the playoff race after once looking like favourites to finish at the top of the table.
Addressing the speculation online, PBKS initially posted a message urging users — especially “sports journalists” — to verify facts before spreading misinformation.
“Criticism, banter, and opinions are part of sport. Fake stories and made-up narratives for cheap engagement are not. We urge everyone, especially ‘sports journalists’, to verify facts before spreading misinformation for attention or traction,” PBKS posted on X.
The franchise later deleted the post and replaced it with a revised version that removed the reference to journalists.

Preity Zinta also reacted publicly, stressing the difference between genuine criticism and deliberate misinformation.
“There’s a difference between criticism & calculated misinformation. Healthy debate around the game is welcome, but the deliberate spread of fake narratives to damage individuals, the team, or the brand should not & will not be taken lightly,” Zinta wrote on X.
She further urged social media users, including verified accounts and media professionals, to act responsibly before amplifying unverified information.
“I urge everyone — including verified voices & media professionals — to exercise responsibility before amplifying unverified information. Thank you,” she added.
The statements come at a time when Punjab Kings are under pressure to revive their campaign and secure a playoff spot after their recent run of defeats.
