The Kolkata Knight Riders continued to wait for the debut of Matheesha Pathirana, who was once again left out of the playing XI in their clash against the Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium.
The Sri Lankan pacer, bought for ₹18 crore in the auction, has been recovering from an injury sustained during the 2026 T20 World Cup and missed KKR’s first seven matches. Although he joined the squad recently after receiving clearance from Sri Lanka Cricket, he is yet to regain full match fitness.
KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane opted to stick with the same combination, saying, “We’re going with the same team,” ruling out Pathirana’s inclusion for now. The pacer is expected to be in contention for KKR’s next match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 3.
Meanwhile, New Zealand batter Tim Seifert is under pressure after a string of poor performances, including consecutive ducks. His place in the XI could be at risk once Pathirana is deemed fit.
Mohsin Khan Stars as KKR Collapse Early
On the field, it was Mohsin Khan who stole the spotlight with a sensational spell. The left-arm pacer delivered a wicket-maiden, dismissing Seifert before removing Rahane to put KKR under early pressure.
The biggest talking point, however, was the unusual dismissal of Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who was given out for obstructing the field — a rare decision that left both the batter and commentators stunned.
Mohsin continued his fiery spell after the powerplay, striking again with the first ball of the seventh over to dismiss Rovman Powell with a sharp bouncer.
With early wickets tumbling and Pathirana still on the sidelines, KKR found themselves under pressure in a crucial encounter as LSG looked to tighten their grip on the contest.
