Babar Azam endured another disappointing outing as he recorded the lowest strike-rate in T20 World Cup history (minimum 500 runs) during Pakistan’s Super 8 match against England at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

The former Pakistan captain managed 25 off 24 deliveries, hitting two boundaries before being bowled by Jamie Overton. His knock once again highlighted concerns around his scoring tempo in the shortest format.

In the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, Babar has batted four times in six matches, scoring 91 runs at an average of 22.75. Once a regular opener, he has been shuffled down the order to No. 4 and No. 5 in recent games.

Despite being one of Pakistan’s most experienced T20 batters — with 4,571 runs in 135 T20I innings at a strike-rate of 128.18 — his World Cup numbers tell a different story. Babar’s strike-rate of 111.5 in T20 World Cups is now the lowest in tournament history among players with at least 500 runs.

The milestone adds further pressure on the senior batter as Pakistan’s campaign hangs in the balance.
