Papua New Guinea wicketkeeper-batter Kipling Doriga has been charged with robbery following an incident in the early hours of Monday, August 25, in St Heliers, the capital of Jersey. Doriga was part of the PNG squad currently competing in the CWC Challenge League being hosted on the island, a Crown Dependency of the UK.
The 29-year-old, who has represented PNG in 97 international matches, including the 2021 and 2024 T20 World Cups, appeared before the Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday morning. Doriga is understood to have pleaded guilty to the charges.
However, Relief Magistrate Rebecca Morley-Kirk deemed the case too serious for the Magistrate’s Court and referred it to the Royal Court, where Doriga is scheduled to appear on November 28. His application for bail was declined, meaning he will remain in custody on the island until that date.
