T20 cricket is often described as a batter’s game — boundaries fly, strike rates dominate, and bowlers are usually at the receiving end of carnage. Yet, every now and then, a bowler produces a spell so miserly that it changes the course of the match. Economy, after all, can be as lethal as wickets in this fast-paced format.

Here’s a look at some of the most economical bowling spells in T20 cricket history that left fans and opponents stunned.

1. Nuwan Kulasekara – 4 overs, 0/8 vs South Africa (2012)

The Sri Lankan pacer produced a magical spell against South Africa in Hambantota, conceding just 8 runs in 4 overs. At a time when run rates of 8–10 were common, Kulasekara’s accuracy and swing ensured the Proteas never got going. His spell remains one of the most economical in international T20s.

2. Rashid Khan – 4 overs, 2/3 vs Bangladesh (2018)

Afghanistan’s spin wizard Rashid Khan bamboozled Bangladesh with a spell of 2 wickets for 3 runs in 4 overs in Dehradun. His economy rate of 0.75 is almost unheard of in the shortest format. Rashid’s tight lines and unreadable googlies made scoring nearly impossible.

3. Mohammad Naveed – 4 overs, 3/3 vs Qatar (2019)

Representing the UAE, Naveed bowled one of the most economical spells in T20 internationals, finishing with 3 wickets for 3 runs in his full quota of 4 overs. His disciplined bowling dismantled Qatar’s batting order and highlighted the rising standards of Associate cricket.

4. Chris Morris – 4 overs, 2/2 (CPL 2015)

In franchise cricket, South Africa’s Chris Morris delivered a gem while playing in the Caribbean Premier League. He bowled 4 overs, gave away only 2 runs, and picked up 2 wickets. Such control in a high-scoring league made it one of the most memorable spells of T20 franchise cricket.

5. Trent Boult – 4 overs, 3/6 (IPL 2020)

The New Zealand left-arm pacer produced a match-winning performance for the Mumbai Indians during the IPL. His 3 wickets for 6 runs in 4 overs completely broke the opposition’s momentum. Boult’s new-ball swing and pinpoint yorkers showcased how lethal economy can be in T20 cricket.
