The West Zone Selection Committee has named Shardul Thakur as captain of a 15-member squad for the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2025. The announcement was made following a selection meeting held at the MCA’s Sharad Pawar Indoor Cricket Academy in BKC on Friday, August 1.
The West Zone squad features a strong representation from Mumbai, with seven players selected, including star names like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer, and Sarfaraz Khan. Maharashtra’s Ruturaj Gaikwad also finds a place in the team, while experienced campaigners Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara have not been included.
The squad comprises four players from Gujarat and two each from Maharashtra and Saurashtra. Sanjay Patil of the Mumbai Cricket Association chaired the selection committee. A list of seven standby players has also been announced: Mahesh Pithiya, Shivalik Sharma, Mukesh Chaudhary, Siddharth Desai, Chintan Gaja, Musheer Khan, and Urvil Patel.
The 2025 edition of the Duleep Trophy will kick off on August 28 with two quarterfinal matches. West Zone, having received a direct entry into the semifinals, will begin their campaign on September 4. The final is scheduled from September 11. All matches will be held at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

In the East Zone camp, Bengal’s Mohammed Shami, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Akash Deep, Mukesh Kumar, and Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal have been named in the 15-member squad. Ishan Kishan will lead the side, with Easwaran named vice-captain.
The squad includes a mix of experienced players and young talent from across the zone. Sudip Kumar Gharami has been listed among the standby players.
