Mitchell Starc produced a devastating spell, taking 6 for 9, while Scott Boland claimed a hat-trick as Australia bowled out West Indies for just 27 — the second-lowest total in Test history — to seal a 176-run win and a 3-0 series sweep on Monday at Sabina Park.
Starc set records with the fastest five-wicket haul in Test history, claiming three wickets in the first over of West Indies’ second innings, including a triple-wicket maiden. It was his 15th five-wicket haul in Tests and came during his 100th Test, where he also reached the 400-wicket milestone.
The West Indies narrowly avoided breaking the all-time lowest Test score — New Zealand’s 26 in 1955 — thanks to a misfield that gifted them a single. At one stage, they were 11 for 6.
Scott Boland added to the collapse with a brilliant hat-trick, dismissing Justin Greaves, Shamar Joseph, and Jomel Warrican, becoming just the 10th Australian to achieve the feat in Tests.
Earlier, Alzarri Joseph had given West Indies hope, taking 5 for 27 to bowl out Australia for 121 in their second innings, leaving a target of 204. But that hope evaporated under the lights as Australia’s pacers demolished the hosts in just 14.3 overs.
West Indies’ score of 27 is their lowest in Test history, falling below their previous low of 47 at the same venue in 2004. Only four batters scored runs, and six of the top seven were dismissed for single digits or ducks.
Series Summary:
- 1st Test (Barbados): AUS won by 159 runs
- 2nd Test (Grenada): AUS won by 133 runs
- 3rd Test (Sabina Park): AUS won by 176 runs
“It’s been a fantastic series,” Starc said. “To do this in my 100th Test is very special.”
West Indies captain Roston Chase praised his bowlers but admitted the batting unit had let the team down. “It’s a heartbreaking way to finish,” he said.
